Santorini Beaches
Thira’s famous black sand beaches are found on the island’s east coast. They get extremely crowded in high season, and are very hot to walk on without footwear. Kamari is the most developed, with some 300 hotels and pensions in the area. Monolithos, popular with wind surfers, has a few tamarisk trees for shade, is closer to Fira, and has some ruins. Perissa, south of Kamari, is much frequented by young people, with many cheaper rooms, and a very long beach with a shaded campsite behind it (and noisy bars).
